The North American Electricity Reliability Corporation (NERC) issued a white paper of compliance to international standards which means powerline needs to be surveyed once per year. It has been a mandatory requirement for all North American utilities since 2014. Airborne LiDAR quickly generates accurate 3D spatial information in powerline corridor together with images for feature extraction and modeling. FLOOD SIMULATION MAP
Because Lidar can achieve better elevation accuracy than photogrammetry data ; it doesn’t need stereo pair to compute the 3D geospatial data. It needs less processing time than photogrammetry processing in post processing to simulate flood map which is one of the major drives for insurance company and disaster prevention and city planning.
Full-waveform lidar data have been widely used for forest analysis. The waveforms are decomposed to produce dense 3D point clouds in the canopy which are then used to estimate forest parameters at the scale of the stand. For instance, individual tree crown segmentation, tree height, location mapping, growth simulation, etc.
